Female Torso

Fernando Botero

Fernando Botero is a trained painter, but he has also worked with sculpture since the 1970s. He works with classical motifs and lines that can be drawn to both the Italian Renaissance and Baroque and Picasso’s buxom female characters from the 1920s.

However, Botero’s interpretations are very distinctive. His characters are big and look almost inflated, the proportions are greatly exaggerated, and motifs are often perceived as humorous and/or critical.
