This is this year's architecture photo

December 6, 2019

The Twist has been named Architectural Photo of the Year at the International Architectural Photo Awards 2019.

The jury evaluated a selection of 2000 images from 42 countries. 24 finalists were presented in a number of design and architecture magazines earlier this fall. The Twist was nominated in two different categories - Exterior and Sence of Place.

The most rewarding yet was the award for the 2019 Overall Winning Photo that went to The Twist photographed by Laurian Ghinitoiu of Romania.

The award was presented during the World Architecture Festival (WAF) in Amsterdam, Friday 6 December.

The following picture was nominated in the Sence of Place category:

When shooting The Twist, designed by BIG, it was challenging to combine in one single frame the main particularities of the project: its sculptural shape, the structure that expands over the river, as a bridge, and at the same time to imply that ‘the object’ is actually a functional building. The context, the design and its scale, the poetry of the sinuous lines that are melting with the surroundings in a surreal atmosphere, are the elements that are making the captured image to be abstract but descriptive at the same time.
