Ring of Fire: Workshop with artist Nikhil Vettukattil
August 19, 2025
On Friday, 29 August, 11:00–13:00, Kistefos invites you to a workshop with artist Nikhil Vettukattil, held in connection with the exhibition Ring of Fire on the second floor of Nybruket.

Ring of Fire is part of the Springbrett project, which each year gives a young curator the opportunity to realize an exhibition concept based on works from the Christen Sveaas Art Foundation. This year, Liv Brissach has curated an exhibition that uses the tectonic phenomenon the Pacific “Ring of Fire” as a starting point for artistic explorations of, among other things, fire, destruction, and time.
One of the young artists included is the Oslo-based, Indian-British Nikhil Vettukattil, who has created a new work for the show, Incendiary Memory. This installation is a so-called incense clock—an age-old way of measuring time using an intricate pattern that a flame follows as the incense burns.
Taking this work and the exhibition’s themes as a starting point, Vettukattil will lead an interactive workshop at Kistefos focusing on sensory experiences. Together we will move around different places at Kistefos, listen to the landscape, and connect the present to Kistefos’s industrial past.
The workshop is suitable for teenagers and young adults, and is free with admission to Kistefos on the day. If you wish to participate, please email live@kistefosmuseum.com.
Springbrett is supported by Sparebankstiftelsen DNB.
