It is a pleasure to be able to announce the French-Italian artist Tatiana Trouvé (b. 1968 in Cosenza, Italy) as the sculptor of the year at Kistefos. For the season opening, Trouvé has created two site-specific works, which will be displayed in the historical Wood Pulp Mill.

Trouvé has drawn inspiration from the surroundings, history, and humans who shape Kistefos, painstakingly composing her sculptural objects as memories of the past, and guardians of the present. The essence of Kistefos is encapsulated in the sculptures, inviting contemplation and reflection. These works allude to the workers’ community which was a defining feature of Kistefos until the mid-1950s, while also ruminating on the universal human experience.

Through her oeuvre, Trouvé is interested in the interplay between memory and materiality, and explores our understanding of the world beyond the human experience. Trouvé draws inspiration from the world of literature and has renewed the sculpture and installation genre since the mid-1990s.

Trouvé was honored with a solo exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in the summer of 2022. In 2007, she was awarded the Prix Marcel Duchamp, the most important recognition for emerging French artists. Her work has been shown at many prestigious events and institutions, including the 52nd and 50th Venice Biennales (2003, 2007); Palais de Tokyo in Paris, France (2006, 2002); CAPC in Bordeaux, France (2003); and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Geneva, Switzerland (2004).

The works are commission number 53 in the sculpture collection.
