The Twist named museum of the year by Designboom
December 3, 2019
The Twist is at the top of Designboom's award TOP 10 museums and cultural venues of 2019. Second place goes to the new national museum in Qatar MNoQ, designed by Jean Nouvel. On the list we also find The Shed in New York, The Binhai Science Museum in China and James Simon Galerie in Berlin.
According to Designboom, 2019 has been an outstanding year when it comes to new museums and cultural institutions. The year has been marked by bold design choices and a great deal of excitement has been linked to a number of projects.
Spanning the winding Randselva river, a unique new building connects two forested riverbanks at Kistefos — northern Europe's largest sculpture park. Part museum, part bridge, and part sculpture, The Twist has been designed by Bjakre Ingels Group (BIG) and represents the firm’s first project in Norway. Dramatically torqued at its center, the structure not only allows visitors to cross from one riverbank to the other, but is also capable of hosting an international program of contemporary art exhibitions.
