Bent of Mind

Bent of Mind looks as though it is constantly growing and changing. The two profiles, which make up the sculpture’s main motive, constantly change character as you move around the sculpture to see them from different angles.

A stretched neck becomes a round cheek, which in turn becomes a curved lip or a marked nose. The glossy surface and the dark bronze, which looks almost liquid, is reminiscent of flowing water or beautiful icicles.

Despite Cragg’s sculpture being large - nearly five meters high - it is not perceived as heavy. The excitement and variety in shape provide a dynamic expression that apparently nullifies gravity. The title, Bent of Mind, alludes to the human mind’s constant vicissitudes, and the difficult choices we face in a changing world.
