Point of View – Part 2

Having walked through the Twist, descending to the floor below the exhibition galleries, a mirage of the same male figure appears through the window. The opposition between inside and outside is even more apparent with the glass dividing the audience looking out, and the figure looking in.

While the work echoes the one at the entrance, the confrontation is omnipresent with the figure staring directly into the space. The work was commissioned for the building and directly addresses Bjarke Ingels Group’s frozen river concept on the lower floor with its opaque fan-shaped glass staircase and the direct visual connection between interior and exterior. Furthermore, like Warm Regards, the mirrored surface of the work absorbs its surroundings and takes on the quality of both water, stone and ice reinforcing the feeling of a marginalized person.
